Mega Disasters Seconds From Disaster Fire on board the Star MS Scandinavian Star, originally named MS Massalia and also known by other names (see infobox), was a car and passenger ferry built in France in 1971. The ship was set on fire in 1990, killing 159 people. M/S Massalia was built by Dubigeon-Normandie S.A. in 1971 and delivered to Compagnie de Paquebots who put her on the route Marseille–Málaga–Casablanca and also cruises in the Mediterranean Sea. In 1984 she was owned by a number of companies and named Stena Baltica, Island Fiesta and finally Scandinavian Star, a name given to her by Scandinavian World Cruises who chartered the ship and put her on cruises between St. Petersburg, Florida and Tampa, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico. In 1990, the Scandinavian Star was sold to Vognmandsrute...
This documentary fllm is about the history of the Vikings who were a northern European maritime civilization. They were pagan, non- christian, tribal based organization which was remarkable complicated and suffered greatly from the Roman propaganda claiming they were "barbarians". They settled all over Europe: Scandinavia, Russia, the British Isles, Ireland, Denmark, France, and even American eastcoast. Trading was they're main business, raiding was a part-time job.

Restoration of a wooden ship recognized as historical maritime treasure by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage. Faber Navalis is Latin for Boatbuilder: words in an ancient language for describing an ancient profession. It might seem just a video about the restoration of a wooden ship, but the actual subject of this documentary-film is the state of mind of its shipwright: an Italian researcher in maritime ethnography who decided to learn boat building skills in order to understand the intangible knowledge hidden behind the construction of a wooden ship. This film is an experiment in autobiographical ethnography in which the shipwhright is also the filmmaker: a combination of aesthetics and ethnography which attempts to bring out an inner dimension that may only with difficulty,...

Dolphin show at Batumi Dolphinarium, Georgia, filmed on September 1st, 2016. As a show, it was definitely better than the one at Kolmården Zoo - but of course, a Scandinavian zoo has to put much greater emphasis on "natural" and conservation and education, than a dolphinarium in a west Asian tourist location. And I enjoy both educational and "entertainment" shows, the thing with this one was the many behaviors I had never seen before (like the dance at 24:00), the length of it, the number of trainers and dolphins, the beautiful stage, and the clear love between trainers and dolphins. All the dolphins are presented by name in the beginning. They had three babies born a few months earlier, and two of them are with their mothers in the pool here, the third mother-calf pair is in one of the...
Eva Berglund-Thörnblom from the Stockholm Maritime Museum ( Sjöhistoriska Museet) gave a wonderful presentation on the life of yacht designer Tore Holm from Sweden at the #Venda Sailing Symposium at the Vene Båt boat show in Helsinki. Holm and the Holm boat yard are particularly well known for their skerry cruisers and other sailing boats.
This is a Siemens E311e HF receiver as manufactured in the 1960-70's. Used a lot in ground and maritime radio. It was an excellent performer for its time. Allowing any frequency to be set to within +/-50Hz. Stability was due to temperature control of critical oscillators. This example was restored at VK4GXC, Ovens needed repair, some cosmetic work and a full realignment returned the unit back to fully operational condition.
